Manaus (AM) – Amazonas surpassed the mark of 18 thousand formal jobs accumulated in the first eight months of 2023. In August, 23,053 formal jobs were created, against 18,500 dismissals, a balance of 4,553. Across the North Region, the balance was 17,852 formal vacancies in August. With this, the state has a stock of 492 thousand formalized jobs.

The data comes from the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Novo Caged) and was released this Monday, 2/10, by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

In August, Amazonas had a positive performance in the five sectors of economic activity evaluated. The main highlight was the Services sector, with a balance of 2,503 vacancies created in the month. Next come the Commerce sectors, with 882 new jobs, Industry (747 vacancies), Construction (237) and Agriculture (184).

Manaus was the city with the highest balance of formal jobs in the period (+3,702), which represents 81.31% of new jobs in Amazonas in August. Presidente Figueiredo (+307) and Silves (+148) complete the trio of municipalities with the best results. Silves was also the city that recorded the biggest relative variation, reaching a growth of 90.24% in relation to the July stock.

National

The month of August ended with 220,844 new formal job openings across the country. In the year to date, Brazil has a balance of 1.38 million vacancies.

The stock of formal jobs in the country reached 43.8 million positions in the month, a variation of 0.51% in relation to the previous month and the highest value ever recorded in the historical series, considering both the Caged period (June 2002 to 2019) and New Caged (from 2020).

According to Minister Luiz Marinho, “the expectation is for growth and that by the end of the year the country will be able to generate around 2 million formal jobs”. The month’s balance reflected 2,099,211 admissions against 1,878,367 dismissals. During the year, admissions reached 15,937,956 positions, with 14,549,894 workers being dismissed.

Sectors

The services sector was the biggest generator of jobs in August, reaching 114,439 jobs created in the month and 771,130 vacancies in the year. In August, the Commerce sector generated 41,843 jobs, industry 31,086, Construction 28,359 and Agriculture 5,126. In the year, Civil Construction came in 2nd place (222,925 jobs created), followed by Industry (187,573), Agriculture (105,422) and Commerce (101,032).

100% Positive

Among the states, all had a positive change in employment in the month, with emphasis on São Paulo, which had the best performance, generating 65,462 jobs in the month, followed by Rio de Janeiro (18,992) and Pernambuco (15,566).

Wage

The register also shows a small increase in the hiring and dismissal salary, which reached R$2,037.90 and R$2,121.90 in August, respectively.

The balance by gender shows that 128,405 vacancies were created for men and 92,439 for women. The largest generation occurred in the 18 to 24 age group (124,669) and in relation to race or color, the majority of vacancies generated were for mixed race (130,917), white (56,099) and black (20,738).
