Amazonas sees drop in demand for cholesterol medications

Manaus (AM) – Amazonas recorded a 4% drop in the search for cholesterol medications, according to data from InterPlayers, the health and well-being hub. In the same period, there was growth of 20% in São Paulo, which leads the ranking in the search for these medicines. Across the country, the increase was 22% in the last 12 months.
The increase in the search for cholesterol medications occurs in a scenario in which Brazilians are gradually becoming aware of this problem that can cause serious illnesses. The Ministry of Health announced that around 40% of the population has high cholesterol.
The concern about the consequences of living with high cholesterol is not just in Brazil, there is even a World Cholesterol Day celebrated on August 8th.
High cholesterol levels are not restricted to adults, according to recent data from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), one in four children and adolescents has high cholesterol. More than a quarter of the country’s children and adolescents, or 27.47%, have high levels of total cholesterol.
