Manaus (AM) – With the aim of alerting and sensitizing people about the disease, endocrinologist Emânuel Lobato, who works at the Adriano Jorge Hospital Foundation (FHAJ), a unit linked to the Amazonas State Health Secretariat (SES-AM), warns about the harmful effects of the disease that affects many people in the country and in the world. In allusion to the National Diabetes Day, celebrated on Monday (26).

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the way the body metabolizes glucose, a type of sugar present in the blood. The disease is caused by the lack or poor absorption of insulin, a hormone that promotes the use of glucose as energy for the body.

The main types of diabetes are type 1, which is considered the rarest, type 2, which is considered the most common, and gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy and, in most cases, is caused by excessive weight gain. from the mother. According to the endocrinologist, the disease has no cure, but in some cases, the patient does not need medication to control the disease.

“Diabetes has no cure, but in some cases it can have remission. Remission is when the patient reaches a situation where he does not need medication to be treated. He manages to keep his blood glucose levels under control, without using medication for that. In some cases it is possible to achieve this remission, but we do not call it a cure”,
