Amazonas’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached R$131.5 billion in 2021, a significant increase compared to 2020, with R$116 billion. The growth in Amazonas’ GDP was accompanied by a 5.56% increase in its production volume, and was above the national average of 4.76%. The data was released by the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), this Friday (17).

Among economic activities, the highlight is the performance of the Services sector in Amazonas, which represents 46.94% of GDP, followed by Industry (31.82%), Agriculture (4.29%) and Taxes (16.95% ). The numbers surpass the GDP performance of 2020 compared to 2019, when it suffered a 1.69% drop in production volume, amid the economic challenges faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the head of Sedecti, Serafim Corrêa, the numbers demonstrate that Amazonas has played a fundamental role in the Brazilian economic context and reflects not only the economic potential of the state, but also the ability to recover and prosper in an economic environment in constant evolution.

“The growth of our GDP is due to the recovery of the economy as a whole, because with the pandemic there was a drop in 2020, but in 2021 it was already a situation in which the pandemic was being overcome by vaccination in which the Government of Amazonas acted pioneering and very bold way. We are all to be congratulated on the turnaround”, declared Serafim.

In 2021, the Services sector in Amazonas recorded values ​​of R$61.7 billion compared to R$55 billion in 2020, signaling economic growth and contributing 46.94% of the State’s GDP.

The Service Sector groups 11 activities, of which Public Administration stands out with (36.81%) in participation in the sector and an amount of R$22.2 billion in 2021, followed by Commerce, as the second largest activity, with 19 .47% of the services sector, having reached R$ 12 billion and followed by Real Estate Activities, occupying third position with a share of 12.57% and generated values ​​of R$ 7.7 billion.

Industry

Amazonas Industry ended the year with impressive numbers, showing a nominal growth of 16.79% compared to 2020, reaching a total of R$41.8 billion, against the R$35.8 billion recorded in the previous year.

In this sector, in 2021, the Manufacturing Industry stands out, reaching a value of R$30.1 billion, an increase compared to the R$26.4 billion recorded in the previous year, contributing 22.91% to GDP of the State, and Civil Construction, a key sector for the development of infrastructure and housing, with a variation of 16.14% when comparing the years 2020 and 2021.

Agriculture

The performance of Amazonian Agriculture grew for the second consecutive year, in nominal value. In 2021, the sector reached the mark of R$5.632 billion in value, surpassing the year 2020 with R$5.114 billion, driven by the 0.42% growth in its production volume.

In Agriculture, the largest share in the sector with 48.66%, there was a 4.28% drop in production volume compared to 2020; In forestry production, fishing and aquaculture, it ranks 2nd in the sector with a share of 37.12% and growth of 5.20% in production. And in livestock, production in Amazonas grew 7.45%; which was reflected in the growing demand for products of animal origin, such as meat and dairy products, driven by increased domestic consumption and even exports.

National scenario

Amazonas is among the states that had an increase above the national average of 4.76%, ranking as the 12th state with the highest growth at 5.56%. Rio Grande do Sul led the ranking, with growth of 9.28%.

In the economic scenario of the Brazilian Federation Units in 2021, São Paulo stood out as the federation unit with the highest GDP, reaching R$2.719 trillion, followed by Rio de Janeiro, which contributed R$949.301 billion, and Minas Gerais , with a solid economy worth R$857.593 billion. Together, these three States represented a significant portion of the national GDP, contributing 50.23% of the total. Amazonas maintained its position in 16th place, with a GDP of R$131.531 billion. Among the states in the North region, Amazonas remained in second place, behind only Pará with an amount of R$262.905 billion.
