Amazonas Dance Festival ends with performances at Largo de São Sebastião

Closing ceremony starts at 18:00 this Saturday (02/09)

Manaus (AM) – The 11th Amazonas Dance Festival (FAD) comes to an end after a week of activities in different parts of the city and inland. The closing ceremony will take place this Saturday (09/02), starting at 6 pm, at Largo de São Sebastião, in the center of Manaus.

The Corpo de Dança do Amazonas (CDA) opens the program with “TA – Sobre ser Grande”, a show inspired by the Tikuna people in a 40-minute production. Directed by Mário Nascimento, the dancers express, through dance, what it means to be great in the North region, especially during the pandemic. The soundtrack is signed by DJ Marcos Tubarão.

Then, the audience sees performances by names that are a reference in Amazonian dance: Ana Mendes, Marcos Vinicius, Maria Gomes. Each with five minutes of presentation.

Villa-Lobos

Cia Ballet da Barra comes with “Fragmentos Villa-Lobos”. The work honors one of the greatest Brazilian artists, Heitor Villa-Lobos.

“Heitor Villa-Lobos was a significant character for Brazilian classical music. Composer of works with nuances of Brazilian regional culture is influenced by European culture, his work is of great relevance to art, motivating our ‘making art’ in a creative way, this is how we collaborate with the record of his memory and creations”,

says Karla Bianca, artistic director of the company.

Bianca points out that Ballet da Barra participated in nine editions of the FAD and the general director, Edna Marta Marti, was also one of the special honorees at the 2012 festival.

“Participating once again in a festival like the FAD is of paramount importance for the company. We all know how important dance is for us, northern artists, and being at the Amazonas Dance Festival will always be a great honor”,

says the coordinator.

The company has 40 students including youth, teenagers and adult students. In addition to Karla Bianca, Ballet da Barra has Eliezer Rabelo as international director and volunteer teachers Breno Furtado, Celice Freitas, Marcela Maciel, Bianca Marques, Francis Baiard and monitors Maria Eduarda, Gleydson Aranha and Giovana Quinto.

Occupation

FAD occupied cultural spaces such as Teatro Amazonas, Teatro da Instalação, Teatro Gebes Medeiros, Palacete Provincial, Largo de São Sebastião and Centro de Convivência da Família Padre Pedro Vignola with lectures, conversation circles with selected groups, workshops, shows in Manaus and Iranduba and battle “all style” to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop.

Adalto Xavier, Dirley Duarte and Miguel Maia were the dance professionals honored in the 11th edition. They participated in experiences and shared knowledge and experiences.
The Amazonas Dance Festival is held by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy and the Amazon Agency for Cultural Development (AADC), with co-production by the Permanent Dance Forum of Amazonas (FPDAM).
