Manaus (AM) – The Corpo de Dança do Amazonas (CDA) begins a new tour, this Thursday (15), passing through the cities of Fortaleza (CE), Brasília (DF) and Curitiba (PR), with the shows “Rios Voadores”, by Rosa Antuña; “TA – About being great”, by Mário Nascimento and “Caput – Art 5”, by Jorge Garcia.
After 25 years of operation, the state-owned company has accumulated awards, standing out in the contemporary dance scene on stages in Brazil and abroad. The shows were selected in the Caixa Cultural 2023/2024 Occupation Program Notice.
For CDA’s artistic director, Mário Nascimento, the selection of productions reflects the importance of the message transmitted by the company, in order to address issues on stage, which go beyond the state’s culture, revealing the potential of Amazonas.
“There are several awards won by the CDA in these 25 years, which reflect not only excellence with a focus on artistic work, but also of a social nature, of dissemination of Amazonian culture, of a political nature that I seek to bring the theme that involves the Amazon, the culture of the original peoples, who are the legitimate protectors of the forest”,
said Mário Nascimento.
“The CDA is very important because it talks about us, not in a stereotypical way. The North is a cultural hub, we have the Teatro Amazonas, one of the most beautiful theaters in the world, we have the Opera Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Parintins Folk Festival, in short, with the forest, with the original peoples, there is a bustling life in capital”,
added the director.
Still according to Mário Nascimento, the latent musicality of Amazonas is a unique characteristic of the company. “I consider the dance body to be truly contemporary. The dancers have a way of dancing and find it very easy, due to the musicality, the folklore that brings authentic movement. We have a powerful cast”, revealed the director, who four years ago took over management of the artistic team, bringing with him work in large national and international companies.
Amazonian DNA
An example of the versatility of the CDA dancers can be confirmed with the apotheotic performance of Cléia Santos, in the front committee of Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. Occupying a prominent position, the Amazonian dancer represented the Yanomami people. Still in the ecstasy of the presentation, she recognizes the importance of the artistic body.
“Being part of the CDA is a pleasure, it’s a privilege. As a dancer, dancing with artists who are still there today and who I saw there in the first show is incredibly grand. The CDA has influenced my trajectory since the beginning. When I was able to watch them on stage at Teatro Amazonas, I actually started to want to pursue a career as a dancer”, revealed Cléia.
The Amazonas Dance Corps is one of the seven artistic bodies of the State Government, administered by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. There are 24 dancers, with 95% of the cast being Amazonians.
For the holder of the portfolio, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the CDA is a space for valuing art and professional development. “Amazonas is one of the few states that concentrates seven artistic bodies from different segments, from music, singing and dancing. This large group of talented artists, which receives encouragement from the government, is the result of priority work to pay attention to the arts and disseminate culture”, concluded the secretary.
