The data are from the National Waterway Transport (ANTAQ) and reflect the growth driven by the increase in the movement of iron ore, soy and oil.
The president of the Association of Port Terminals and Cargo Transshipment Stations in the Amazon Basin (Amport), Flávio Acatauassú, explains that the growth in the use of waterway transport is a reality and an evolution for the country, in line with sustainable practices.
“Waterway transport is 29 times more energy efficient than road transport and consumes 19 times less fuel. In addition, it emits six times less carbon dioxide than road transport. This growth is a natural movement, which we see very favorably, as it promotes sustainable growth for the country in the Amazon region”,
explains the executive.
