The Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear) reported this Thursday (2) that Petrobras promoted an average readjustment of 17% in the prices of aviation kerosene (QAV) sold to distributors, in 15 refineries in the country. The increase comes after an 11.6% reduction in fuel prices in early January.

Traditionally, Petrobras discloses price changes through its official channels, which did not happen this time. So far, the state-owned company has not published any information about the decision. THE People’s Gazette questioned the state-owned company about the reason for the readjustment and the reason why the increase was not publicly announced by the company, but did not get a response until the closing of this article. Content will be updated in case of response.

According to Abear, comparing the amount charged for QAV in February 2022, with the price readjusted now, the increase in fuel reaches 37.8%. A recent survey carried out by the entity shows that, in December 2022, the average price of QAV at the pump in Brazil was almost 45% higher than that charged in the United States.

“The high price of QAV remains the biggest challenge for Brazilian airlines, as this input represents around 40% of total costs. The volatility of the dollar exchange rate is also worrying, as more than 50% of costs are dollarized. That is why Abear has expanded its dialogue with the Government, creating permanent dialogue tables with ministries such as Finance, Ports and Airports, Tourism and Embratur”, says the president of the entity, Eduardo Sanovicz .
