Air New Zealand has announced that it is ready to launch Skynest, an innovative onboard sleeper for economy class passengers, from September 2024. During Trenz, New Zealand’s largest international tourism business event, the airline shared more details about reservations and pricing.
Leanne Geraghty, Air New Zealand’s head of sales and customer service, said the Skynest will be launched on ultra-long flights, starting on routes linking Auckland to New York and Auckland to Chicago.
The executive pointed out that Skynest will offer passengers a unique and innovative way to rest during long-distance travel.
Geraghty also revealed that Skynest will be designed and installed in New Zealand. It will be configured with six sleeping modules in a bunk bed configuration. Each capsule will include a full-size pillow, sheets and blanket, ear plugs, a separate reading light, USB port for personal devices, ventilation socket and lighting designed for rest.
Each passenger will be entitled to one session, and families traveling on the same ticket may book a session for each passenger, subject to availability. In addition, each capsule will have a separate seat belt so passengers can buckle up and stay in case the signal comes on during turbulence.
The company is considering a price between US$ 254 and US$ 382 (R$ 1,247 and R$ 1,876) for a period of 4 hours.
Air New Zealand closed by stating that the Skynest is an example of its 83-year history of investing in innovation and overcoming the possible. The onboard berth will change the game and add more flexibility to the economy class travel experience.
