Airbus raises delivery forecast for next 20 years and sees more plane replacements

Airbus raised its forecast for new plane deliveries over the next 20 years, but tempered its forecast for growth in the airlines’ global fleet as companies focus on replacing older aircraft.
The world’s biggest plane maker forecasts 40,850 deliveries over the next 20 years, up from 39,490 in its previous forecast for the next two decades released last year.
The company raised its forecast for freighter deliveries to 920 from 890 previously, implying 39,930 deliveries of passenger planes, of which Airbus said 80% would normally be served by single-aisle jets such as the A320neo or Airbus’ 737 MAX. Boeing.
Airbus has also revised its forecast for the number of aging aircraft to be replaced over the next two decades from 15,440 to 17,170 units.
With the number of aircraft replacements increasing, Airbus predicted that 58% of deliveries will meet the growth of air fleets, down from 60% in its previous forecast.
Aircraft manufacturers say the delivery of new energy-efficient aircraft will make a significant contribution to reducing emissions, along with alternative fuels and leaner operations.
Airbus said the global fleet will more than double to 46,560 aircraft in 2042 from a pre-pandemic level of 22,880 in early 2020.
However, its forecast for the fleet at the end of the forecast period was lower than the previous estimate of 46,930, as growth is expected to slow and aircraft retirements increase.
