Agro São Paulo sees increase in exports and predicts new record – 16/10/2023 – Panel SA

Agribusiness in São Paulo is expected to close 2023 with a new record for exports and a balance of trade. The confidence comes from the result up to September, a surplus of US$16.62 billion (around R$84.1 billion), an increase of 7.5% compared to the first nine months of last year.
While exports grew 5.8% in the period, with US$20.46 billion, imports fell 0.8%. It was R$3.84 billion.
Five groups of products correspond to almost 80% of São Paulo’s agricultural exports until September: sugar and alcohol (US$ 7.23 billion), soybeans (US$ 3.19), meat (US$ 2.28 billion), paper and cellulose (US$ 2.03 billion) and juices (US$ 1.54 billion).
Coffee, a traditionally important product in the state’s trade balance, came in seventh place. The sector sold US$682.36 million.
According to a survey by the São Paulo Agribusiness Agency using data from the IEA (Institute of Agricultural Economics) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply, exports of agricultural and livestock products account for 39.7% of what the state sells to other countries. In imports, it accounts for 7.1%.
China buys more than a quarter of agricultural exports from the state of São Paulo. Until September, there were US$5.34 billion, equivalent to 26.1% of foreign sales.
From January to September, exports from São Paulo represented 16.2% of what agribusiness sold to other countries in the period. The result is 0.3 percentage points higher than that recorded in 2022.
Of the total exported by Brazil, 84.3% of the juices were produced in São Paulo. Live plants and floriculture products account for 68.7%, and the sugar and alcohol sector, 63.4%.
