Agrishow: expansion in the Midwest should boost sales – 05/04/2023 – Market

A reference in agricultural fairs in the country, Agrishow (International Fair of Agricultural Technology in Action) is betting on the capitalization of large producers, especially in the Midwest of the country, to break record sales in this year’s edition.

In an event practically without criticism of the current agricultural policies for the country, unlike others of the genre this year, the Agrishow was presented with optimism this Wednesday (5th) in Ribeirão Preto (313 km from São Paulo). The fair, in its 28th edition, will take place between the 1st and 5th of May and expects to sell more than R$ 11.2 billion in machines.

Abimaq (Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry), one of the organizers, suggested to the government the release of R$ 45 billion in the Crop Plan, to give robustness in the next agricultural cycle, and affirms that the sector’s problem is not in the farmers , which are capitalized.

“The market is very different between small and large farmers, large farmers have been buying. We imagine that they will increase the area once again, and to increase the area they need to buy machines. As the area increases more in the Center- West, which are big machines, the market continues to buy”, said Pedro Estevão, president of the Sectorial Chamber of Agricultural Machines and Implements of Abimaq.

According to him, the R$ 45 billion proposal was made after the government asked for suggestions. Of the total, R$ 34 billion would go to Moderfrota (to modernize the fleet of tractors and machines) and the other R$ 11 billion would go to Pronaf (Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture).

“That would be the best of both worlds. Last year the sector earned BRL 90 billion, BRL 10 billion of which for exports and BRL 80 billion for the domestic market. So BRL 45 billion is practically half of the sector’s revenues, we think. enough to have a very robust Crop Plan”, he said.

Abimaq vice-president, João Carlos Marchesan said that Agrishow’s revenue is important, but not relevant, due to the fact that the fair is “always a success”. After reaching BRL 2.9 billion in 2019 (BRL 3.68 billion, corrected by the IPCA) and BRL 11.24 billion upon recovery, in 2022 (BRL 11.68 billion, updated), the projection of participants is that last year’s sales volume is surpassed.

“I hope it’s bigger [que 2022]. The fundamentals are there, the farmer is capitalized, there will be an increase in area and, consequently, he needs a machine. Consequently, there will be an increase in revenue. We have a complement to the Crop Plan, which is about to come out, it’s been promised, I think it should be released by the National Monetary Council to give it a breather until the next Crop Plan”, he said.

President of Agrishow, Francisco Matturro, former Secretary of Agriculture of São Paulo, stated that the plan is also important for being a marker of rates and costs of the available resources.

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was criticized during the presentation of the fair, but in a much more superficial way than in other events in the sector, as occurred at the opening of Tecnoshow Comigo, in Rio Verde (GO), in the last week, when the PT member’s name was not even mentioned.

“Regarding the mismanagement that we have today, in terms of invasion, etc., yesterday [terça] A legal council was created at Faesp, with judges, prosecutors, lawyers, including Ives Gandra on the board, so that we can immediately have a legal solution if there is an invasion in São Paulo”, said Pedro Lucchesi, second treasurer from Faesp (Federation of Agriculture of the State of São Paulo).

The entity is also the organizer of the fair, as well as Abag (Brazilian Agribusiness Association), Anda (National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers) and SRB (Brazilian Rural Society).

At Tecnoshow, in the city of Goiás, the Lula government was criticized for its tax reform, interest rates, lack of information about the Safra Plan and land invasions.

Lula should not participate in the opening and should be represented by his deputy, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), according to businessman Maurilio Biagi Filho, honorary president of the fair.

Former member of the Council for Economic and Social Development created by Lula in his first term, Biagi Filho said that today both are not as close as they used to be, but that he was pleased to contribute and take the PT “closer to the sugar-energy sector” . In 2007, Lula called sugar mill owners, a sector of which Biagi has always been a part, “national heroes”.

AREA EXPANSION

Agrishow will be held in an exhibition area of ​​530 thousand square meters in Ribeirão Preto (the equivalent of 74 football fields), 10 thousand square meters more than in 2022.

With 800 national and foreign brands on display, the forecast is to attract more than 190,000 visitors. Tickets cost R$70.

In order to try to avoid traffic jams of more than three hours on arrival at the event, new parking spaces were created and the opening hours of the fair were changed. Instead of opening the gates at 8am, they will now open at 9am.

The mayor of Ribeirão, Duarte Nogueira (PSDB), said that the forecast is that the local economy will receive a direct injection of R$ 60 million in services in the five days of the event. The city’s hotel sector, which has 12,000 beds, is fully occupied, as are hotels in cities in the metropolitan region.
