The expectation already indicated that the billing record would be broken, but the Agrishow (International Agricultural Technology in Action Fair), which ends this Friday (5) in Ribeirão Preto (313 km from São Paulo), reached R$ 13 .29 billion in business intentions and also hit the highest number of visitors in its history.

The data were announced this afternoon by Pedro Estevão, president of the Sectorial Chamber of Agricultural Machines and Implements of Abimaq (Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry), main organizer of the agricultural fair, based on figures informed by the 800 exhibitors.

Last year, R$ 11.243 billion in agricultural machinery and implements were traded (R$ 11.77 billion, adjusted for inflation), which means a real growth of 13% in business. The data includes only agricultural machinery, excluding vehicles, aircraft, software, fertilizers and seeds.

The fair brought together 195,000 visitors, compared to 193,000 in last year’s edition. It is the record number of visitors since 1994, when the first Agrishow was held in Ribeirão Preto.

On Thursday (4), in a statement to the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission), Banco do Brasil had already indicated that the scenario would be good for the agricultural and financial sectors by reporting more than R$ 2 billion in negotiations in the four first days, against the target of R$ 1.5 billion for the entire fair.

In the factories that took their products to Agrishow, the scenario of optimism was repeated in recent days. Igor Leão, sales manager of the Chinese multinational LiuGong in Latin America, for example, said that in the first two days of the agricultural fair alone, the company had already beaten the sales target set for the entire week.

“Even though it is a fair centered in São Paulo, we are aware of its international scope. Its prospecting is very good because we are able to serve customers from all over the world at once,” he said.

Bouwman, from Paraná, will close Agrishow with sales more than 30% higher than expectations, according to its commercial director, Rafael Bouwman.

Manufacturer of a hay and forage machine with 1,180 horsepower, enough for 340 tons per hour of work, the company had a low expectation due to the high interest rates in the country, the fall in soybean prices and the lack of reaction in the price of bovine arroba (15 kg).

“It will overcome a lot, due to the low forecast we made. If it were a forecast like 2022, I believe that we would be well within expectations”, he said. To try to circumvent the interest, the company offered its own installments in ten installments and the result was good, in the evaluation of the commercial director.

This year’s fair had a political crisis and the minister’s visit was canceled

Agrishow was held in a climate of tension between the organization and the federal government. On April 25, the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, said he felt “uninvited” to the event after being informed by Francisco Matturro, who left the presidency of the fair this Friday, that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would participate of the opening ceremony, last Monday (1st).

Discomfort grew as the fair approached and, three days later, the federal government threatened to cancel Banco do Brasil’s sponsorship of the fair. The crisis led Agrishow to announce, on Saturday night (29), that it would no longer hold the traditional opening ceremony.

Bolsonaro maintained his participation and, without the official opening, had an event at the same time, in the auditorium of the IAC (Agronomic Institute of Campinas), where he spoke to ruralists and criticized the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), mainly regarding the demarcation of indigenous lands.

The IAC is linked to the Government of São Paulo, commanded by its ally Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
BB did not suspend its sponsorship, which was maintained on the streets and official panels of Agrishow, but the bank’s president, Tarciana Medeiros, and members of the board of directors who had an agenda at the fair canceled their participation.

Agrishow will have a new president

Even before this Friday’s press conference, the organization of Agrishow has already issued a statement informing Matturro’s departure from the presidency, in a rotation process instituted in 2007.
He was replaced by João Carlos Marchesan, who will remain in office in 2024 and 2025. The fair thanked Matturro for “the dedication and zeal with which he exercised the presidency in the last four editions”.

Agrishow is organized by Abimaq (Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry), Abag (Brazilian Association of Agribusiness), Anda (National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers), Faesp (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo) and SRB (Brazilian Rural Society).

The 29th edition of Agrishow will take place between April 29th and May 3rd.
