Transfers through agreements already exceed R$ 700 million.
Manaus (AM) – Sidney Falcão has been working at the Porto do Ceasa fair for two decades, in Vila Buriti, BR-319, south of Manaus, and, according to him, he had never seen a renovation like the one currently taking place in the place, due to the agreement signed between the Government of Amazonas and the Municipality of Manaus.
There are eight agreements involving works for the recovery and revitalization of 30 fairs and markets, with investments of R$ 24.8 million, R$ 24.3 million from the state and the counterpart of R$ 497 thousand from the municipality.
The state resource is passed on to the City Hall by the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), an agency linked to the State Secretariat for Urban and Metropolitan Development (Sedurb). The works are carried out by the Municipal Secretary of Agriculture, Supply, Center and Informal Commerce (Semacc).
The secretary of Sedurb, civil engineer Marcellus Campêlo, points out that the State Government has been making a heavy investment in works in the city of Manaus, aiming at improving the quality of life of the population. According to him, through the UGPE alone, transfers through agreements already exceed R$ 700 million.
“These are major structural works that are being carried out in Manaus, with the support of the Government of Amazonas. Fairs and markets, for example, are very important for the local economy. The works that are being carried out will provide more suitable places for the stallholders to work and attract more visitors, due to the comfort and structure they now offer”,
observes the secretary.
At the end of August, according to him, the renovations of three fairs will be completed: the one in Porto do Ceasa, the Polivalente, in the Japiim neighborhood, in the South zone, and the one in Glória, in the homonymous neighborhood, in the West zone. In these three locations alone, the investment is over R$ 1.8 million in improvements that will provide a more modern, clean and pleasant environment.
Another seven fairs and markets have already been delivered. Among them, São Francisco, the Jorge de Moraes Municipal Market, the Prefeito 1 and 2 itinerant fairs, the Municipal Fair of Bairro da Paz, Quarentão and the Mini Shopping da Compensa. Another 23 interventions are in progress.
Improvements
The works at fairs and markets include the demolition of compromised structures, replacement of roofing elements, renovation of bathrooms and the internal and external sidewalk, in addition to the modernization of electrical installations. The project also provides for new painting on the walls and metal structures of the fairs, making the environment more attractive and welcoming.
For the stallholder Sidney Falcão, much more than the modernization of the space, the work represents better working conditions and the opportunity to attract customers and sell more.
“For us, it is very important. It’s much better to work with and will bring in more customers,”
celebrated.
