Accordionist Roger Corrêa will cross borders to show his compositions with regional roots, but made for the world. To mark this new moment, launches this Friday (10), on digital platforms, the single guaíba, accompanied by a music video on YouTube. Recently nominated for the Açorianos Award as best instrumental composer for the album South in Watercolor – alongside famous names like Alejandro Brittes, Baby Kramer and Yamandu Costa – Roger Corrêa will spend three months in Europe, starting in May, to perform a series of concerts with local musicians.
“The single guaíba brings the Latin American roots and the desire to dialogue with the rest of the world. It is a tribute to the Guaíba River, to the city where I was born and, at the same time, it brings this new vision that I have been building throughout my career. It is music for the world with a South American accent”, he says. In this time of change, the unprecedented guaíba was recorded with a new lineup of musicians. The quartet has, in addition to Roger Corrêa, Tiê Pereira on acoustic bass, Daniel Grajew on piano and Rodrigo Porciúncula on drums. “In this recording, I allow myself to touch on the improvising side without strings attached, bringing my regional essence to the encounter of world music”, he comments.
Born in Guaíba (RS), Roger Corrêa started his contact with the harmonica dot at the age of 6. He is currently based in Florianópolis (SC). At the age of 13, he joined the Project Fábrica de Gaiteiros, idealized by Renato Borghetti, a musician with whom he performed in different parts of the country. He has already taken his authorial work to more than eight countries, between Europe and South America, and has performed more than 20 concerts as a guest soloist with the Camerata Florianópolis orchestra. In 2022 he presented his album South in Watercolor at Instrumental Sesc Brasil, in São Paulo.
