The discounts announced by the government will follow a points scheme based on four criteria: energy source, energy consumption, price and productive density (the percentage of the car that is produced in Brazil). For a car to receive the maximum discount of BRL 8,000, for example, it is necessary to reach at least 90 points. To stay in the minimum discount range, R$ 2,000, the score must be below 69. Thus, if the car: is flex fuel (accepts gasoline and ethanol), it scores 20 points; has an energy consumption between 1.61 and 2.00 MJ/Km, scores 15 points; costs between R$80,000.01 and R$90,000, makes 18 points; has a productive density between 60% and 64.99%, makes 15 more points, totaling 68 and receiving the minimum discount. In total, there are seven discount ranges, which vary according to the following scores: R$ 8,000 for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 90; BRL 7 thousand for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 85 and less than 90; BRL 6 thousand for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 80 and one and less than 85; BRL 5 thousand for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 77 and less than 81; BRL 4 thousand for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 73 and less than 77; BRL 3 thousand for vehicles whose sum of points is greater than or equal to 69 and less than 73; BRL 2,000 for vehicles whose sum of points is less than 69. Where will the money for the measurement come from? To get the money to support the program, the government will anticipate the resumption of tax collection on diesel oil, such as Pis and Cofins. The remainder will be used in the 2024 budget. And, instead of reducing taxes, the government’s idea now is to grant tax credits to companies in the sector. That is, they will continue to have to pay taxes, but they will earn credits that can be used to deduct tax payments in the future. In total, the government reserved R$ 1.5 billion for the program. It will be R$ 500 million for cars, R$ 700 million for trucks; R$ 300 million for vans and buses. When it reaches R$ 1.5 billion, the program will be closed. Car sales grew in May According to the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), the number of licensed cars in May was 127.5 thousand, the number is 7.9% greater than in April (118.2 thousand ).
