Curitiba will have a second Urban Farm by the beginning of 2024. The project is part of the city’s 330th anniversary celebrations. Mayor Rafael Greca laid the foundation stone for the work in the CIC neighborhood this Friday afternoon (10). The new space will occupy almost three times the area currently allocated to Fazenda Urbana Cajuru. There will be 11,000 m² integrated into the Parque dos Tropeiros, in the region close to Vila Diadema and Caiuá.

The project provides for a space for sustainable food cultivation and a Family Warehouse, focusing on regional products and family farming. A Food and Nutritional Security school will also be installed at CIC’s Urban Farm. The place will be equipped with a multifunctional kitchen, composting area and the so-called Abelha LAB. With shelter for Jataí bees, Abelha LAB will be used to replicate hives in the native forest and manage the honey produced.

The first Urban Farm in Curitiba was inaugurated in June 2020 and is located in Regional Cajuru. The purpose of the space is to be a place to think about food from production to the table, making the whole process more together, smart and sustainable. In the area of just over 4 thousand m², there is a vegetable garden, orchard and greenhouse for the cultivation of more sensitive species.

Last year, Fazenda Urbana do Cajuru received an award from the Milan Pact – one of the legacies of EXPO 2015 and which aims to think about solutions for problems related to food in urban areas. The initiative developed by the city of Curitiba has the award-winning chef Manu Buffara as one of the godmothers.
