The anticipation of this Saturday’s annular solar eclipse (14) and the need to take some precautions to avoid damaging your eyes when observing the phenomenon generated a series of memes on social media.

In this case, Marge Simpson did not follow the guidelines to appreciate the phenomenon —which in the United States could be observed in its entirety— and suffered drastic consequences.
And there’s no point in the excuse of “taking a quick look”. As we explained here, it is not recommended to observe the eclipse with the naked eye because this can cause retinal burns.
