The Conversation website launches Brazilian version – 09/07/2023 – Science

The Brazilian version of the scientific news website The Conversation went live earlier this week. The page, whose motto is “academic rigor, journalistic style”, has Brazil as its ninth country of operation.

The idea is a page aimed at the general public and with a licensing strategy for free republication. The organization says that its texts are republished by around 20 thousand websites and newspapers, which would leverage an audience of around 50 million readers per month.

“Since today [dia 4 de setembro]all Brazilian scientists have an entire channel to call their own, exclusively dedicated to publicizing the progress of their latest research, their opinions on the most relevant contemporary topics and — why not? — the latest news from academia”, says the text that announces the start of work on the page and is signed by Daniel Stycer.

Stycer, by the way, is the editor-in-chief and executive director of The Conversation Brasil. He was previously executive editor of the website of the newspaper O Globo and head of the Rio branch of Revista IstoÉ. Additionally, he received the Esso Journalism Award in the scientific information category in 1998.

“All produced directly by researchers from the most important scientific institutions in Brazil, with the curation and editorial support of a team of professional journalists, entirely dedicated to expanding the penetration capacity of this content among the non-specialist public”, continues Stycer. “Science for everyone, in an attractive and current format, but done with responsibility and, above all, care for the content covered.”
