Impa (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) announced this Thursday (9) the results of the sixth edition of its journalism awards.
Folhinha and journalist Marcella Franco, who is also responsible for Folhateen, received the Hors-Concours Award, which, according to the institute, represents recognition of the partnership that significantly contributes to the dissemination of mathematics.
In April, Folhinha started publishing logic and mathematics challenges. The initiative takes place with the support of the institute, responsible for developing the competitions.
There were also honorable mentions for two texts published in the newspaper.
One of them refers to the report “Dropout affects 7 out of 10 exact science teacher training students”, by Paulo Saldaña, published in May this year. Part of the Missão Professor series, the report addressed the challenges for training teachers in the area of exact sciences in the country.
The other mention is for the interview “‘Talent is evenly distributed between genders’, says 2nd woman to receive Fields Medal”, signed by Gabriel Alves. In the text, published in June this year, Ukrainian Maryna Viazovska highlighted the importance of families supporting girls who are interested in mathematics and science.
In the mathematics category, first place went to the report “The primacy of cousins”, by Bruno Vaiano, published in Superinteressante. In the scientific dissemination category, the main prize went to the text “A volta do Ubirajara”, by Bernardo Esteves, published in Piauí magazine.
The jury for the 6th Impa Journalism Award was formed by the columnist for Sheet and general director of IMPA, Marcelo Viana, by the president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Helena Nader, and by journalists Sabine Righetti, researcher at Labjor-Unicamp and founder of Agência Bori, and Raphael Gomide, coordinator of IMPA’s press office.
