Inflation in capitals ranges from 1.11% to 4.44%; see ranking – 07/11/2023 – Market

After punishing consumers from the pandemic, inflation loses strength in Brazilian metropolises. This is what data from the IPCA (National Index of Consumer Prices) released this Tuesday (11) by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) indicate.

In the accumulated 12 months until June, the index was below 3% in 11 of the 16 capitals and metropolitan regions surveyed by the institute.

The lowest increase was registered in São Luís: 1.11%. Goiânia had the second less intense variation, of 1.30%. Curitiba (2.07%), Fortaleza (2.13%) and Campo Grande (2.43%) appear next.

São Paulo, in turn, accumulated the highest increase until June, of 4.44%, despite the trend of truce – the increase was 5.08% until May.

The scenario shows differences compared to a year ago. In June 2022, the accumulated IPCA was above 10% in 15 of the 16 capitals and metropolitan regions surveyed by the IBGE.

The biggest rise at the time was in Curitiba (14.24%), followed by changes in Salvador (13.41%), Goiânia (12.36%) and Aracaju (12.36%). Belém (9.55%) was the only metropolis with inflation below 10% at the time.

In Brazil’s average, the IPCA decelerated to 3.16% in the accumulated 12 months until June this year. It is the smallest variation in this cut since September 2020 (3.14%).

According to analysts, the result is associated with factors such as the loss of strength of food inflation in a scenario of greater supply, in addition to the artificial drop in fuel prices with the tax exemption promoted by the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government on the eve of the elections. from 2022.

Economists estimate that the accumulated IPCA should remain at a level above 4% until the end of the year. In part, this projection is associated with the basis for comparison, with the departure of the 12-month calculation of the effects of the exemption seen in the second half of 2022.
