The leaders of the G7 decided, this Saturday (20), at the summit in Hiroshima (Japan), to create a future “working group” to address the “responsible use” of artificial intelligence (AI) and the risks it presents, among them the misinformation.
“We ask the competent ministers to establish the Hiroshima Process on AI, through a working group created in cooperation with international organizations, with a view to debating generative AI at the end of the year”, says the communiqué of the G7, whose meeting ends on Sunday.
Just like ChatGPT, the most popular application today, generative AI programs – capable of producing text, images, sound, video, etc. – are in full expansion in the world, at the same time that they raise deep concern in several sectors.
G7 working group discussions on the subject could also discuss “governance, the protection of intellectual property rights” and the “responsible use” of these new technologies, but also on ways to tackle “information manipulation” and the “disinformation” through these same tools.
“We are committed to advancing in the multiple approaches for the elaboration of norms on AI, respecting the binding legal structures”, adds the note.
“We recognize the importance of procedures that promote transparency, openness, due process, impartiality, respect for privacy and inclusion to promote responsible AI”, insisted the leaders of the G7, a group that brings together the largest industrialized democracies in the world. (United States, Japan, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Canada).
