Without Tite, Flamengo goes with Filipe Luís for the final stretch of the 2024 season
Flamengo announced, this Monday (30), the dismissal of coach Tite. The coach saw his situation become practically unsustainable after the elimination in the Libertadores, against Peñarol-URU, and was fired even after the victory against Athletico-PR, on Sunday (29), at Maracanã. Now, Filipe Luís will be the commander of Rubro-Negro in the final stretch of the season.
In total, Tite led Flamengo in 68 matches, with 41 wins, 11 draws and 16 defeats, having taken office in October 2023. Ahead of Rubro-Negro, the gaucho only won the 2024 Carioca Championship.
A Flamengo idol, the former full-back began his coaching career at the beginning of 2024, after retiring last year. Filipe Luís started his career on the outside of the four lines in the Under-17 team and, subsequently, moved up to the Under-20s after Mário Jorge left. In the top category, he won the U20 Intercontinental Cup over Olympiacos-GRE, at Maracanã.
Two-time Libertadores champion with the Sacred Mantle as a player, Filipe Luís debuts this Wednesday (2), at Maracanã, in the first game of the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, against Corinthians.
Prepared?
On the day of the most important title of his career, Filipe Luís was asked about the possibility of taking over Flamengo’s professional team. Two months ago, the coach stated that he needed more preparation time, but this period was shortened due to the bad results with Tite.
“I started in the right place, which is at the base. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve done things right, I’ve done things I regret. For this, I have this beginning here, to really develop myself. The player was left behind and I have to win the affection of the fans on the other side, as a coach. If I manage Flamengo in the future, I want to be as prepared as possible. But I still have to prepare. I don’t know where I’ll be in January”, said Filipe.
