We had a certain World Burger Day on Sunday (28). You’ve never seen so many photos of smash, angus blend, cheddar pool, pickles, mustard and ketchup on artisanal brioche bread on social media.

The hamburger took over the scene. It became omnipresent. We even forget that there are other possible sandwiches, some as good as him.

One of my favorites is an American classic that’s rare in Brazilian diners: the BLT.

“B” is for bacon, “T” is for tomato and “L” is for “lettuce”. It could be translated into BAT, but let’s leave it in the original language.

The BLT also has mayonnaise. It’s like a bacon salad minus the burger and cheese. It works great, believe me.

You will see that the recipe comes without ingredient amounts. I decided to do it this way for two reasons.

First, because it will depend on the bread you choose.

I played dumb and baked my own bread with pizza dough I had in the fridge, but you can make it with bread of any type or size. Loaf of bread, hamburger buns, French bread, ciabatta, they’re all good.

Then, because I leave each of you your favorite proportion. Want to be healthy? Throw him more lettuce. Want to be happy? Give him a mountain of bacon.

As for bacon, it is better to use the one that is already sliced. It’s easiest to prepare it in crispy strips. I mimicked an American recipe and braided the slices to get a square of bacon. Do as you see fit.

In the same recipe they add avocado to the sandwich. I did the same, with avocado and mayonnaise. It got a little too heavy. I recommend choosing one of the two.

Choose a very ripe avocado that you can mash and spread like butter on bread. If you have guacamole ready, even better.

I like the BLT with romaine or iceberg lettuce. Both are more crunchy than smooth or curly. I also added some raw red onion, for even more texture and flavor.

A BLT is a sandwich in which only the bacon is (or can be) hot. I suggest that you heat the bread when you assemble it.

mashed avocado or mayonnaise

Romaine or iceberg lettuce

Sliced ​​Ripe Tomatoes

sliced ​​red onion

Way of doing

  1. On a flat plate, place the bacon slices on two sheets of paper towel, without overlapping. Cover with two more sheets. Place in the microwave and bake until crispy.

  2. Warm the bread. Grease the two halves with avocado or mayonnaise. Lightly salt the tomato.

  3. Assemble the sandwich with the bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion.
