Vini Jr: Spanish Federation reduces Valencia’s punishment – 05/26/2023 – Sport

The Resources Commission of the Spanish Football Federation partially accepted a request from Valencia and reduced, this Friday (26), from five to three games the period in which part of the Mestalla stadium will have to be closed.

The fine imposed on the club also dropped from 45,000 euros (R$ 242,000) to 27,000 euros (R$ 145,000).

Valencia had appealed against the decision of the Federation’s Competitions Committee, which had determined the closure of the Mario Kempes stand, from where the racist insults against the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, from Real Madrid, would have started on Sunday (21).

The commission’s decision states “that the measures taken by the club during the match, to prevent what happened, were not sufficiently taken into account” by the Competition Commission.

In this way, the commission reduced from five to three games the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium, which should start to be applied this Sunday, in the match against Espanyol, for the penultimate round of the championship.

racist attacks

Vinicius Junior accused Valencia fans of calling him a “monkey” – videos on social networks show the corners of the stands. The episode generated discussion between athletes from both teams and the Brazilian, later in the match, received the red card.

The commission had already annulled the expulsion.

As a result of the incidents, three men, aged between 18 and 21, were detained by the Spanish police this Tuesday (23). They were released hours later.

The attacks against the player led the Public Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation for “hate crime”, a criminal category that, in Spain, includes racist crimes.

The Antiviolence Commission, a body linked to the Higher Sports Council, announced that it was examining the images available to identify the perpetrators of the insults and “propose the corresponding sanctions”.
