Vini Jr.: LaLiga will request arrest of attack instigators – 09/28/2024 – Sport

Atlético de Madrid fans have been promoting a campaign on social media for the use of masks in the stands of the Metropolitano stadium, this Sunday (29), for the duel against Real Madrid, at 4pm Brasília time.

The measure aims to make it difficult to identify those responsible for racist attacks against Real’s Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who has repeatedly been the victim of insults from Spanish fans.

LaLiga, the entity responsible for organizing the Spanish championship, said in a statement that it will formally denounce and ask for the “immediate arrest of the instigators of a hate campaign that seeks to promote racist and vexatious acts” at the match.

This campaign, the note continues, “constitutes a crime of incitement to hatred, clearly typified in the Spanish Penal Code.” The organization states that it “strongly condemns these actions that foment, promote and incite, directly or indirectly, hatred against a specific person, in this case the player Vinicius Jr., because of his race.”

Last Thursday (26), Real Madrid announced that a fan convicted of making racial insults against the Brazilian striker and Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze in games in Mallorca last year had his sentence suspended after the attacker apologize in a letter to Vinicius Jr. and undergo anti-discrimination training.

The team did not reveal the fan’s identity. He was also banned from attending stadiums for three years.
