Tarcísio pressures Bolsonaro to join Nunes’ campaign – 10/01/2024 – Mônica Bergamo

The recovery of Pablo Marçal (PRTB) in the electoral polls in São Paulo led allies of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to redouble the pressure for him to become more involved in the campaign of mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

There is fear that the former coach will be able to win a portion of the Bolsonarista votes that are with the mayor.

Of the total number of voters who say they will vote for Nunes, 32% say they can still change candidates. Among them, 22% could migrate to Marçal, according to the most recent Datafolha survey.

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), spoke with the former president at a breakfast in Guarulhos on Tuesday (1st) and insisted that Bolsonaro record messages aimed at his voters.

Other party and religious leaders have also appealed to him. But, according to reports in the column, Bolsonaro barely moves from his seat.

Even though he was in São Paulo on Tuesday, the former president did not even meet with Nunes. After coffee with Tarcísio in Guarulhos, he hit the road towards Vale do Paraíba, in SP.

His agenda foresees him intensifying the campaign in Rio de Janeiro in the final stretch.

The former president’s allies are rehearsing explanations for his attitude. One of them would be Bolsonaro’s fear of appealing to his electorate and not being heard — a sign that his leadership could melt.
