Tabata donor defends useful vote in Boulos – 10/02/2024 – Power

Writer Beatriz Bracher, the third largest donor to the Tabata Amaral (PSB) campaign, is also one of the signatories of the manifesto recently released by artists and intellectuals in defense of a useful vote for Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) in the dispute for Mayor of São Paulo.

Bracher donated R$150,000 to the federal deputy’s campaign. The value only appears behind the transfers of businessmen Edson Queiroz Neto, heir and executive of the Edson Queiroz group, one of the largest business conglomerates in Brazil, and Guilherme Leal, co-founder of Natura. Each donated 200 thousand to Tabata’s candidacy in 2024.

Despite the contribution to Tabata, the writer signs a manifesto that defends a broad front against Bolsonaro supporters and a useful vote for Boulos. “The broad front that prevented Bolsonaro from remaining in power [em 2022] needs to stand up again to prevent this second round of consecration of Bolsonarism from happening”, says the document released last Monday (30) and signed by a group made up of more than 150 Brazilian artists, intellectuals, jurists and businesspeople, including Bracher .

A letter in defense of Tabata’s candidacy was endorsed by the author’s brother, banker Cândido Bracher, who did not sign the document. One day after the release of the manifesto in favor of the PSOL candidate, personalities released an open letter asking for a vote for Tabata and refuting that it is “time for calculations of convenience”. Beatriz and Cândido are children of Fernão Bracher, who was president of the Central Bank and one of the founders of the BBA bank.

The writer is the 21st largest donor to electoral campaigns in 2024. According to data released by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), this year alone, she donated R$795,000 to 22 campaigns. The amount was allocated to party directories such as PT and Rede, as well as candidates ranging from PSOL to PSDB. In 2022, Bracher donated R$150,000 to Lula’s campaign and helped organize dinners in favor of his candidacy for president. The reporter tried to contact the author, but was not contacted.

The manifesto in defense of the vote for Boulos states that it is clear that the psolista is “the candidate who has the best conditions to avoid the tragic outcome of a second round between two Bolsonarists”. The text continues: “Some of the signatories of this manifesto have a preference for other candidacies and would only vote for Boulos in the second round, but recognize that we are facing a risk that the country cannot take.”

The letter in favor of voting for Tabata rejects the useful voting strategy. “In this first round, we are not going to postpone our dreams. We can now choose a better São Paulo. This is not the time for supposed calculations of convenience.”
