Supercopa Rei: Palmeiras and São Paulo decide first title of 2024

The Brasileirão champion, Palmeiras, faces the winner of the Copa do Brasil, São Paulo, this Sunday (4), in the Supercopa Rei

The great day has come! This Sunday (4), at 4pm, Palmeiras and São Paulo will compete in the Supercopa Rei, the first major decision of the 2024 season, at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The game is presented by Banco de Brasília (BRB).

Palmeiras and São Paulo arrive at the game with exactly the same background. Undefeated this season, there are four games, three wins and a draw for the teams, in addition to seven goals and four conceded for both.

Alviverde arrives at the clash as the current champion, after beating Flamengo in 2023, 4 x 3.

In fact, the game’s stage, Mineirão, brings back good recent memories to Palmeiras residents. Verdão won the 2023 Brasileirão inside the stadium after drawing with Cruzeiro 1 x 1, on 6/12.

Not only did Palmeiras have happy moments at Mineirão, São Paulo did too. In 1977, Tricolor won its first Brasileirão title in the stadium that will host the Supercopa Rei.

Probable lineups

Palmeiras: Weverton; Marcos Rocha, Murilo and Gustavo Gómez; Mayke, Richard Ríos, Zé Rafael, Raphael Veiga and Piquerez; Rony and Flaco López. Coach: Abel Ferreira.

São Paulo: Rafael; Rafinha, Arboleda, Diego Costa and Wellington; Pablo Maia, Alisson and Luciano; Wellington Rato, Lucas (James Rodríguez or Galoppo) and Calleri. Coach: Thiago Carpini.

The 2024 edition will take place at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte, on February 4, in a classic that involves two of the biggest fans in the country: Palmeiras x São Paulo.

For Tricolor from São Paulo, the match marks the chance for the first title for Thiago Carpini, coach who took over the vacancy left by Dorival Júnior, now commander of the Brazilian team.

Palmeiras, on the other hand, is coming off a second consecutive title in the Brasileirão. The team led by Abel Ferreira is also the current champion of the Brazilian Super Cup.

Free tickets are also available for children up to 12 years of age (11 years and 11 months), at the Mineirão box office and at Entrequadra 102/103 Norte, in Brasília, within the limit established by law. For the rest of the public, the prices are full entry.

At Mineirão, the orange sector is on the north side of the field, behind one of the goals, and is reserved for Palmeiras fans. The yellow sector, on the south side, will be reserved for São Paulo fans.

The game will not have an area designated for fans of both teams (mixed). However, alviverdes and tricolores will also occupy specific blocks in the purple and red sectors, located on the lateral regions of the lawn (see map below).

The fans will be separated by sectors and will be attended by the Military Police, who will guarantee the safety of the game.

Each sector is divided into blocks. The blocks are organized in rows (identified by letters of the alphabet), where there are numbered seats. This means that each fan must first identify the sector, then the block and, finally, the row and seat number.
