STJD bans attacker for involvement in cases of manipulation in football – News of Brazil

Striker Ygor Catatau, who defended teams like Vasco, Sampaio Corrêa and Vitória, is banned from Brazilian football. The player, currently in Sepahan (Iran), was judged by the 5th Disciplinary Commission of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) last Tuesday (6th), in Rio de Janeiro, for involvement in cases of manipulation for the benefit of betting. The result of the trial was published on the entity’s website this Wednesday (7). Appeal is possible.

Ygor de Oliveira Ferreira, 27, was punished for violating article 242 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), regarding “giving or promising undue advantage to a member of a sports entity, manager, coach, athlete or any natural person […] so that, in any way, it influences the result of the match, competition or equivalent”. The attacker will still have to pay a fine of R$ 70,000. For the time being, the athlete – who will appeal the penalty – can continue to work outside the country.

The player is one of those denounced in Operation Maximum Penalty, by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO), which investigates cases of manipulation in football matches from the 2022 Brazilian Series A and B and state championships this season. Before Ygor, who was at Sampaio Correia last year, midfielders Romário (ex-Vila Nova) and Gabriel Tota (ex-Juventude) and goalkeeper Matheus Gomes (ex-Sergipe) were also banned from national football, in previous trials. .

Another four athletes were also judged by the STJD last Tuesday. The only acquitted was defender Allan Godói, formerly of Sampaio Corrêa and currently at Operário-PR. Midfielder André Luiz, another who defended the club from Maranhão in 2022 and is now at Nam Dinh (Iraq), was fined BRL 50,000 for violating item III of article 191 (Failing to comply with, or hindering compliance with: regulation , general or special competition). The purely financial punishment was approved by a majority vote. He could have been suspended for 360 days.

The other players did not escape suspension. Defender Paulo Sérgio (Operário-PR) and lateral Mateusinho (Cuiabá) – who also represented Sampaio Corrêa last year – were punished with 720 days of removal. The first was fined R$70,000 and the second, R$50,000. They were framed in article 243 (Deliberately acting in a way that is harmful to the team they are defending) of the CBJD.
