The Federal Supreme Court (STF) formed a majority this Friday (9) to ensure that Luiz Carlos Hauly (Podemos-PR) is the substitute for Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) in the Chamber of Deputies. The trial takes place in the virtual plenary until 23:59 tonight.

After recounting the votes, the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) had determined that Pastor Itamar Paim (PL-PR) should be the substitute. However, the rapporteur of the case at the STF, Minister Dias Toffoli, accepted the appeal of Podemos and determined that Hauly, who is part of the party, occupy Dallagnol’s chair.

So far, ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Gilmar Mendes, André Mendonça, Cármen Lúcia and Luís Roberto Barroso have voted with Toffoli. Minister Edson Fachin opened the divergence and was accompanied by Minister Luiz Fux. The President of the STF, Minister Rosa Weber, also disagreed with the rapporteur’s understanding. With that, the score is 6-3.

Luiz Carlos Hauly has a long career in politics in Paraná: he was a federal deputy between 1991 and 2019, state finance secretary, councilor and mayor of the municipality of Cambé, about 400 kilometers from Curitiba, in addition to being an economist and one of the main supporters of tax reform.
