Manaus (AM) – Amazonas Shopping receives the exhibition ‘Ópera na Rede’, between this Tuesday (23) and Sunday (28). With a collection from the 25th anniversary of the Amazonas de Ópera Festival, the exhibition has free admission.

The exhibition about the festival has the support of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of Amazonas (SEC-AM). The exhibition is installed at Praça Rio Solimões, in front of Rei do Mate, inside Amazonas Shopping.

“We were very happy to be able to rescue this story, placing the characters that make up this context, who actually made the story run over time, reaching the 25th edition and being able to add value to this festival that not only enchants but that generates jobs for the population in Manaus”, highlighted the administrative director of Fram, Marcya Lira.

The exhibition brings printed historical records, iconic costumes, photographs of remarkable moments, in addition to curiosities and information about the Opera Festival. The selection and assembly had the contribution of artists, photographers and other agents of the local culture.

One of these items is a photo of the first edition of the then “Festival de Manaus”, in 1997, which brought to the public the works ‘Carmen’, ‘La Traviata’ and ‘O Barbeiro de Sevilha’. The image is of the Bulgarian naturalized Brazilian, Roumen Koynov. For him, reviewing the work exposed to the public is a source of pride.

“It will be a very special moment, a trip back in time. I feel very grateful to be able to share this memory with other people who, for the most part, did not have the opportunity to be there”, said the photographer.

The exhibition also features video-testimonials by Amazonian artists and professionals involved in the editions of the festival, on and off stage.

The art curatorship is signed by Cléia Viana. “Many people are unaware that the genre emerged from the street Carnival in Italy and is, since its inception, a popular expression that has acquired, over the years, this characteristic of erudite. Despite this, it can be watched and enjoyed by all tastes and ages. Furthermore, Manaus has a natural talent for opera since the 19th century; and the festival came, in 1997, to revive this relationship, doing so until today”, she pointed out.

According to the curator, around the festival, an ecosystem of investments, training and even public education emerged in Manaus.

“The smallest part of the artists who perform come from outside Manaus. Most of those involved are local artists: from Coral do Amazonas, Amazonas Filarmônica and Corpo de Dança, in addition to all the professionals who work in the production of a great event like this. It is thanks to all these people that the festival takes place, and they will be represented in the videos of the exhibition, ”he said.

Asked about a particular item that caught her attention, Cléia assumes that she likes the entire exhibition. However, selecting, among so many, just a few items and moments has been an arduous task.

‘Network Opera’

The Rede Amazônica Foundation launched “Opera em Rede” in allusion to the 25th anniversary of the “Opera Festival”. The project is made up of actions such as a campaign to combat hunger, recycling machines, broadcasting of the Opera Festival, planting seedlings, an opera exhibition, pocket shows, Aurora public notice, among other actions.

The initiative aims to popularize opera through cultural and social actions for vulnerable people.

“We have to look at the culture but think about the person, so we understand that, in addition to providing access to culture, we have to raise awareness about some topics that are relevant to the foundation”, said Marcya Lira.
