RS: Folha launches series on reconstruction after floods – 09/28/2024 – Market

THE Sheet publishes the first chapter of a series of reports on the attempt to rebuild Rio Grande do Sul.

Publications begin five months after the start of floods of historic proportions that hit municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul between April and May. Rains have once again caused disruptions in the state in recent days.

The first chapter of the series addresses the scenario for agriculture, a traditional activity in the local economy. THE Sheet visited rural producers in Vale do Taquari, a region hit by heavy rains, and spoke with leaders from the political area and affected sectors.

One of the challenges is the recovery of the soil, devastated by the environmental tragedy, and there are cases of families who decided to change their activity in the field. Their idea is to make lower investments to resume work, in addition to reducing possible losses in the event of new catastrophes.

According to the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, the first death due to heavy rain was reported to the agency at 12:12 am on April 30th. As of August 20, the state government confirmed 183 deaths related to the tragedy, in addition to 27 missing.

The series of reports on the attempted reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul will have new chapters published at the end of the next few months.
