Revenue lists R$ 1.26 billion in goods from the Assaí chain – 09/30/2024 – Market

The Federal Revenue ordered the Assaí supermarket chain to list goods worth R$ 1.265 billion, according to a relevant fact released by the company this Sunday (29). The measure occurs due to tax contingencies related to GPA (Grupo Pão de Açúcar), according to the statement.

The Assaí chain became independent from GPA at the end of 2020, after shareholders approved a split between the companies.

The administrative measure taken by the IRS is a way of monitoring the transfer of assets owned by a potential tax debtor. The objective is to maintain a sufficient amount to pay off the tax credits under discussion, without impeding the transfer of the listed asset.

In the statement, Assaí says it will file an appeal against the registration term, received by the company last Friday (27). According to the company, Assaí’s operations have always been segregated from Grupo Pão de Açúcar’s operations.

“The company reaffirms that GPA remains responsible for its own contingencies, in accordance with the terms of the spin-off, and must compensate Assaí for any resulting loss”, wrote Assaí in a material fact to the market.
