Protesters will march in SP for Moraes’ impeachment
The “Fora Moraes” movement announced the call for a march that will be held on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, this Wednesday (2), to pressure PSD senators and advance the request for impeachment against the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes.
According to the call published on the movement’s social networks, the gathering will take place in front of the São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand Museum of Art (Masp), starting at 6 pm.
The act is part of the movement’s new strategy, which promises smaller actions and “surprise” demonstrations to maintain pressure on Moraes’ impeachment.
“The ‘Fora Moraes’ Movement, after holding four major demonstrations with significant participation in several capitals in Brazil, is now entering a new phase of mobilization […] These events will be held on weekdays, during peak hours, in key locations in the cities, and will serve to keep the fight alive between large demonstrations,” the Movement said in a note sent to People’s Gazette.
“These smaller actions do not reduce the momentum of the movement, on the contrary. They are part of a constant pressure tactic, which will culminate in a large demonstration scheduled for the end of October or beginning of November. This great act, in the planning phase, promises to be even more impactful than the previous ones, with the aim of generating an unprecedented national mobilization”, says another excerpt from the note.
For Guilherme Sampaio, one of the leaders of the movement, “the demonstrations are still strong, but now with a more agile and unpredictable approach”.
“We will not give a truce until our freedoms are reestablished and Moraes’ impeachment request is voted on in the Senate,” he added.
In demonstrations organized by the movement, the following are prohibited:
- banners and slogans calling for the closure of institutions;
- offend people’s honor;
- or propose violent and illicit solutions.
Demonstration in Belo Horizonte
On the 29th, the movement held a demonstration in Belo Horizonte (MG) to pressure the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), to proceed with requests for impeachment against Moraes who accumulate in the House.
Dressed predominantly in green and yellow and with numerous banners saying “Fora Moraes”, the protesters also brought banners with requests for respect for democracy, with demands for Pacheco and with messages related to Elon Musk, who in recent months has demonstrated with frequency against abuses of Brazilian Judiciary power.
The protest location was chosen because it was Pacheco’s electoral stronghold. The PSD, party of the president of the Senate, is also the target of protesters, due to the lack of positioning of most of the party’s senators on the issue. impeachment of the minister.
