Poatan can dethrone Ronda Rousey with new record
It’s not just the light heavyweight belt that’s at stake for Alex Poatan Pereira node UFC 307which takes place next Saturday (5) in Salt Lake City, in the United States.
If he beats Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main fight of the night, the Brazilian will defend his third title in a very short period of time. The first was on April 13th, and the second on June 28th. In other words, there will be three defenses in almost six months — or 175 days.
This will become the shortest period for the number of saves in the organization’s history. Currently, the record belongs to Ronda Rousey, who between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, made the same number of defenses in 189 days.

The retired UFC legend defeated Miesha Tate, Sara McMann and Alexis Davis in the women’s bantamweight division and retained her belt on all three occasions.
The Brazilian has also already reached the value of Ronda’s purse. The former champion’s highest salary in the UFC was US$3 million, in 2016. She earned the big bucks even after losing the title to Amanda Nunes.
Poatan, in turn, received the same amount to rematch Jiri Prochazka less than three months after defeating Jamahal Hill. The amounts do not include bonuses and pay-per-view profits — this was paid to them just to get into the octagon.
With yet another title defense in such a short time, the tendency is for Pereira’s salary to be even higher, regardless of the final result.
Poatan has other UFC records
The possible new record will be just one more on Poatan’s list within Ultimate. As a former middleweight champion, the Brazilian is one of only nine names in the organization to have won the title in two different categories.
Furthermore, he became the first Brazilian to achieve this status and do so in the shortest time in history — there were seven fights in two years.
Alex Pereira will also be the only UFC champion to defend his belt three times in the same season. And if he wins, he will join six other former champions who have also done so: Frank Shamrock (1998), Tito Ortiz (2001), Matt Hughes (2002), Chuck Liddell (2006), Demetrious Johnson (2013) and the most recent, Kamaru Usman (2021).
