PDT contradicts Ciro and gives 100% of the votes to the framework – 05/24/2023 – Panel
One of the parties that gave 100% of the votes in favor of the fiscal framework, the PDT opposed a critical position towards the new rule expressed by one of its main leaders, the former presidential candidate Ciro Gomes.
There were 18 votes for the approval of the rule, including that of deputy Mauro Benevides Filho (CE), the main economic adviser of Ciro’s campaigns.
“There was a significant improvement in the text in recent days, which preserved investments and kept spending on health and education at high levels, which are our biggest concerns,” he said.
On the last May 12th, in a lecture to investors in Lisbon, Ciro criticized the framework, calling it an “absolute squeeze on the investment rate”.
Benevides says that the bench decided to support the new rule, and that one of the reasons was the fact that the party has its president, Carlos Lupi, as Minister of Social Security. There was no contact with Ciro, says the deputy. “He is out of the country. But we already know more or less his position”, he said.
