Pampa biome is the topic of a special session at Sala Redenção


In October, the Nature Dayraising issues such as the importance of environmental preservation. With that in mind, the Redemption Room (Rua Eng. Luiz Englert, 333) and the BiMa-Lab (Laboratory of Evolution, Systematics and Ecology of Birds and Mammals) present a special session of the documentary Pampa Survivorsin Thursday (3) at 4pm. The exhibition is followed by a conversation with researchers from the Institute of Biosciences. Ana Porto, Felicia Fischer and Matthew Camana provide a brief overview of their studies on the pampa, and promote dialogue aimed at problematizing the critical situation of the biome. The input is France and open to the community at large.

Produced by Atama Films in partnership with the Secretary of State for Culture of Rio Grande do Sul, Pampa Survivors presents the rich biodiversity of the pampas biome, while exposing and condemning its accelerated degradation. The feature film covers 13 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sulfollowing different communities that call the pampa home. Between the perspectives of family ranchers, agrarian reform settlers, remaining quilombola communities and indigenous peoples, the work builds a rich mosaic of social identities, showing how their experiences are closely linked to the urgency of environmental conservation. In his debut on 51st Gramado Film Festivalthe production took Kikito from Best Gaucho Feature Film by the Popular Jury.

When the search for his origin takes him to the deep pampas, the documentary director discovers a little-known, recently recognized biome that has more than half of its native area destroyed. So, his search involves discovering a unique biome and its inhabitants, in a mosaic between original peoples, quilombola communities, family ranchers, agrarian reform settlers and rural entrepreneurs, which make him understand the urgency of preservation and strengthening environmental awareness , essential for our survival.
