The young Luíza da Cunha, daughter Clériston Pereira da Cunha, known as Clezão, was present at the “Fora Moraes” protest this Sunday (29) at Praça da Liberdade, in Belo Horizonte.

Considered a political prisoner for the acts of January 8, 2023, Clériston died on November 20 of last year. Even though he was in a serious state of health and had requests for house arrest supported by lawyers and the Public Ministry (MP), his request was denied by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and he died inside the prison.

“The importance of my family being here is to join forces. We continue to fight. Our family was completely destroyed after January 8th and November 20th, 2023,” Luíza told People’s Gazette. “We are still here so that there are no more fatal victims and families destroyed like ours”, he said.

Luíza also commented on the importance of the “Fora Moraes” demonstrations which, as shown by People’s Gazetteshould take place soon in other capitals of the country.

“We are unaware of the power that we, ordinary people, have in defending our nation. We need to continue, we cannot go back to achieve our objective, which is to achieve freedom and also amnesty for the innocent people of January 8th”, declared Clezão’s daughter.

In the electric trio where the speeches took place, the organizers of the event asked for amnesty for those who were unjustly arrested for their alleged participation in the acts of January 8 last year.

Minas Gerais federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) recalled the abuses in the investigations and convictions of people involved in the protests on January 8 last year. “We know that there are many people in prison who have actually committed crimes, but the sentences are completely disproportionate. I hope that the pacification, which this group claims to preach so much, happens. But we are seeing that this will not happen, because they are relentless against the right, against only one side”, he stated.
