Opposition demands explanations about millionaire transfers to NGOs
Amid the record number of fires in recent decades, federal deputy Júlia Zanatta (PL/SC) formally requested the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, for clarification on the allocation of R$315 million to non-governmental organizations ( NGOs). The request for information, filed with the Chamber of Deputies, seeks to understand the criteria and transparency in the use of these resources, which exceed, according to the document, “more than twice the amounts allocated to bodies such as Ibama and Funai”.
The parliamentarian questions the effectiveness of directing funds at a critical time of fires in the country, particularly in the Amazon, Cerrado and Pantanal. Given the seriousness of the situation, she asks why part of these resources was not directed to strengthening firefighting brigades and direct support to fire departments.
“The magnitude of the fires that are ravaging the country raises questions about what the Ministry’s priority is”, points out the deputy in the document.
Among the most worrying points highlighted by Júlia Zanatta is the fact that some beneficiary NGOs are under investigation by the NGO CPI, raising doubts about the appropriate use of these amounts.
The deputy’s request is based on some news that was released by journalist Cláudio Humberto, showing that Marina Silva’s ministry allocated R$315 million to NGOs this year.
“Does the government have guarantees that these resources will be used lawfully and effectively? What concrete results are these NGOs bringing to environmental preservation?”, asks the deputy in her request.
The parliamentarian also points out the contrast between the resources allocated to NGOs and the reduction of funds for traditional environmental inspection bodies, raising questions about the priorities of the Ministry of the Environment.
Júlia Zanatta demands that the government explain the control mechanisms implemented to ensure the correct application of public resources and that there be greater transparency about the concrete results obtained by NGOs in combating the environmental crisis.
This demand for explanations occurs in a scenario of intense scrutiny over the government’s environmental policies, in a context of record destruction of forests and conservation areas, while the population asks whether the government’s actions are in fact aimed at solving environmental problems. urgent.
