The strip of the Brazilian Atlantic Coast called the Equatorial Margin, which runs from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte, has a geological potential of over 30 billion oil and trillions of cubic meters of gas. This statement is made by geologist Antônio da Justa Feijão, who was even a federal parliamentarian for Amapá for three legislatures.
While it is registered that a new request from Petrobras for oil exploration in the region of the mouth of the Amazon River is already with Ibama, the geologist projects that future royalties that oil exploration could generate, would mean the injection of U$ 1 billion, already in the first decade.
He makes the caveat that this is a primary projection, almost a sampling, as these percentages actually depend a lot on what is actually found, and that the transfer of contributions to states and municipalities is proportional to the extraction.

Antônio Feijão explains that two laws regulate the exploitation of the riches of the Brazilian subsoil. The first deals with exploration on the continent and on the national marine platform, and the second in the deepest chamber, called the pre-salt.
“This second is the one that best fulfills the social function, as it federalizes the production and transfer of royalties to all entities, that is, the union, states and municipalities”, ponders the geologist, who recalls that the state of Rio de Janeiro annually receives R$ 50 billion a year from the exploration of oil and natural gas on the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
