Nurses prepare new act in Rio after frustrated agreement – 03/16/2023 – Panel SA

While the stalemate of the nursing salary floor is not resolved, union leaders of the category in Rio de Janeiro decided to hold a new demonstration this Friday (17) in front of the Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The act takes place after an unsuccessful attempt at conciliation between the municipality of Rio, the private health institutions in Rio de Janeiro and the nurses at the TRT-RJ last Monday (13) to decide the course of the strike triggered by the category last week.

According to the organ, the parties did not reach an agreement and, therefore, a new hearing was scheduled for next Friday.

Judge Cesar Marques Carvalho, president of TRT-RJ, determined that during this week at least 60% of the personnel needed to provide essential services per shift are working, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 50,000.

According to Líbia Bellusci, from Sindenfrj (Rio de Janeiro’s Union of Nurses), the workers asked for 50% of the released professionals to go on strike.

In recent months, nursing union leaders have already carried out other strikes and acts in several states to demand the implementation of the new salary floor. The measure was sanctioned in August by former president Jair Bolsonaro and suspended by the STF the following month.

In December, Congress enacted a PEC that unlocked resources from the surplus of public funds to pay for the measure. But health institutions claim that there are still no perennial sources of funding to solve the problem.
