Street running blog is also culture.

I recently watched the movie “Air”, which tells the backstage of the launch of the Air Jordan, the most popular sports shoe in the world. In the plot, Nike executives try to sign a sponsorship deal with a rookie basketball player named Michael Jordan. At stake, the creation of an exclusive line of sneakers for him – in this case, the Air Jordans. The athlete was reticent and said he preferred an agreement with Adidas or Converse, more established brands in basketball, rather than Nike, seen at the time as a company focused on running.

Indeed, the Nike of the early 1980s associated its name with running. And one of those responsible for this bond was the Pegasus line. Designed to please the average runner, the shoe was versatile, delivered a satisfying experience over different distances, and was sold at a price considered affordable – at the time, the pair cost US$50.

In short, the Pegasus was the everyday shoe for the amateur runner – that is, for almost everyone. And the popularization of street racing in the following decades brought with it the consolidation of Pegasus as a reference in sports equipment.

Why all this digression? Because it’s 2023 and Nike has just released the Pegasus 40. The 40th edition arrives with some improvements over last year’s edition. Changes that update the model but preserve the user experience. The fabric is more breathable, the collar has been reinforced with foam, and adjustments have been made in the region of the laces to accommodate those with feet with arches of different sizes. The sneaker also features two Zoom Air capsules, on the forefoot and heel, to help with cushioning and responsiveness. The shoe weighs 288 grams in a size 42. If it’s not one of the lightest, it’s at least compatible with other models in the same category.

Even as technology has evolved over the last four decades, Nike has kept the Pegasus focused on the average runner. Without revealing numbers, he claims to be his most “popular” model. Despite this, the price follows the line of competitors and touches the 4 digits. The Pegasus 40 is on sale on the Nike website starting at R$999.
