MPF and Brazilian Navy dialogue on strengthening the federal Gaeco in Amapá – News of Brazil

Representatives of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) and the Brazilian Navy met this Monday (13) to initiate negotiations aimed at strengthening the work of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) in Amapá. The organ, implanted three months ago in the state, is in the structuring phase. The search for partnerships has the purpose of forming permanent institutional ties aiming at the efficiency of the group’s performance. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Captaincy of Ports of Amapá, in Santana, metropolitan region of Macapá.
Republic attorneys Alexandre Guimarães and Thereza Maia were received by the frigate captain João Batista Reis, commander of the Port Authority in Amapá. At the meeting, the chief prosecutor spoke of the effort he has been making to establish permanent institutional ties, especially to strengthen the work of Gaeco. The group’s coordinator added that the sharing of information and knowledge between the institutions aims to make the work of the MPF’s intelligence sector more effective. Promptly, the commander made available the services of the intelligence cell of the Captaincy of Ports in Amapá to meet the ministerial demands.
The military explained how the Navy’s intelligence area is structured, highlighted the production of knowledge and interaction between the local group and the central agency. He reinforced that the agency’s intelligence area is robust and very active. At the meeting, the authorities also discussed the holding of courses by the Navy’s Intelligence Center and the feasibility of partnerships, both for training and for improving performance.
At the end of the meeting, the Gaeco coordinator was introduced to one of the members of the Port Authority’s intelligence sector. They agreed that, soon, the teams should hold a meeting to get to know each other and define a line of joint action. “This exchange with the MPF, this interoperability, is fundamental”emphasized the commander, also saying that the level of reliability between institutions facilitates the exchange of information.
