Moicano is left without a bonus after beating Saint Denis despite being injured
Renato Moicano had a brutal performance against Benoit Saint Denis node UFC Pariswhich took place last Saturday (28), giving him a technical knockout victory shortly after the end of the second round.
In the first round, the Brazilian knocked the Frenchman down in the main fight of the night, leaving his face disfigured with the number and strength of his blows. Saint Denis returned for the second round, but without being able to see in one of his eyes due to swelling.
In the interval between the second and third round, the medical team declared that Benoit was no longer in a position to continue the duel, giving Moicano the victory.
But despite his total dominance, precision strikes, intelligence in the octagon and medical interruption, Renato did not earn the bonus of US$50,000 (R$270,000 at current prices) for each fight or performance of the night.
Renato’s motto is “Moicano wants money” (Moicano wants money, in literal translation), and the UFC’s decision made the Brasilia native complain on social media — and he took the opportunity to speak badly of the French government once again and, also, ask a spot in the top-6 of the lightweight division.
“I went to France without a bonus, France tried to screw me with my weight and the French government took a lot of my money. The only thing missing is not being in the top six”, he said, through his profile on X (formerly Twitter ).
Currently, Moicano is 11th in the rankings, but he still shouldn’t enter the top-5 because the defeated Saint Denis was already behind him. The official rankings on the UFC website have not yet been updated.
Shortly after the fight, the Brazilian hugged the Frenchman, praised the city of Paris and criticized President Emmanuel Macron’s government, calling it corrupt.
Moicano was injured before UFC Paris
During the fight, something else caught attention: a lump on Renato Moicano’s right shoulder, which could have been acquired at some point during the fight.
But with the victory in hand, Renato revealed that, in fact, the injury happened three weeks before UFC Paris, but he himself didn’t want to give up a main fight at the last minute and still delivered a dominant performance.
“I injured my shoulder three weeks ago. Thank you to my team for helping me train like this and getting me ready to fight,” he said, posting the x-ray of the injury on social media.
