Milton Leite’s chosen ones have more expensive campaigns in SP – 10/01/2024 – Power

The president of the São Paulo City Council, Milton Leite, usually the owner of the most expensive campaigns and voter record holder in the city, kept his promise not to try to be re-elected as a councilor. The União Brasil leader’s bets for the position, however, easily lead the cash available for the capital’s electoral race so far.

The three leaders among the most expensive campaigns are a pastor anointed by the party’s boss and two former advisors chosen as his heirs in the City Council.

With more than 2 million followers on Instagram, pastor Sandra Alves has the richest campaign in the country, with R$4 million received so far — the limit is R$4.7 million.

Sandra is a member of the party among evangelicals as she works in different churches. The president of the Chamber has even made a video aimed at religious voters asking for their votes.

The other two are Silvão and Silvinho, the two chosen by Nunes to succeed him in the City Council.

Before the elections, Silvio Antonio Azevedo, known as Silvão, was Leite’s chief of staff and president of the samba school Estrela do Terceiro Milênio, in Grajaú (south zone), of which the boss is honorary president.

Silvio Ricardo Pereira dos Santos, known as Silvinho, was chief of staff at the Subprefecture of M’Boi Mirim, the region where the Leite patriarch was born, grew up and established his political base.

The first already has R$3.6 million (of which he spent R$3 million) in his account to spend on the campaign, as does the second (with R$2.3 million spent).

In addition to the money that exceeds, for example, the entire amount raised by mayoral candidate Pablo Marçal (PRTB), they count on the entire structure of the Leite family, which is based among samba schools, floodplain clubs, bus companies, among others.

Walking through the streets of the south zone, it was easy to find banners with the names of both Silvinho and Silvão before the electoral campaign period.

The patriarch of the Leite family even put his name forward as a possibility of being Ricardo Nunes’ (MDB) deputy, but the hypothesis was always seen as remote by the mayor’s allies. After all, the PL has the most TV time and is the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro, whose voters the emedebista tries to seduce.

Without its own candidate for mayor, União Brasil has more money than the others to invest in campaigns for councilor. According to data from the Electoral Court, the party’s revenue for Legislative campaigns reaches R$37 million in the city of São Paulo alone. To give you an idea, it easily surpasses PT (R$ 22.6 million), PL (R$ 22.1 million) and MDB de Nunes (R$ 20.4 million).

União Brasil still has one more placed among the 10 richest campaigns in the city: Zilu Camargo, ex-wife of Zezé de Camargo, with R$1.8 million.

Although she is best known on celebrity websites, on União Brasil her name is seen as competitive for her work related to violence against women.

Right after Zilu is councilor Rubinho Nunes, accused of betrayal by Nunes’ allies, when he announced support for Pablo Marçal for mayor. União Brasil announced a halt in funding transfers to him, but his accounting shows that the candidate already has R$1.8 million at his disposal, part from União and part from private donations.

The idea is to go from 7 to 10 seats next year, with a variety of candidates ranging from famous people like Zilu to more radical names, like former Bolsonarista state deputy Douglas Garcia. The current bench has a composition in which the majority is on the center-right.

“União Brasil has formed a representative panel of all segments of society, as it understands that the Chamber must reflect the wide diversity of profiles of our population. I am sure that União Brasil will have a strong, united and cohesive bench in 2025”, stated Milton Leite, in a note, sent to Sheet.

In the list of the richest campaigns, names of parties from the center of São Paulo still predominate. From the left, only Luna (PT) and Cláudio Fonseca (PC do B) are in the top 10.

So far, campaigns for councilor in the capital of São Paulo have R$178 million available.
