Marina Silva says that the situation is not easy after defeat – 05/25/2023 – Politics

Marina Silva said this Thursday (25) that she will try to reverse the dehydration imposed by Congress on the Ministry of the Environment, but admitted that the moment is difficult.

“It is not an easy situation to handle, because the government does not have a majority in Congress”, said Mauro Pires during the inauguration of the new president of ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation).

According to Marina, the National Congress imposes a contradiction on the government, since, in her understanding, the Executive gives priority to the environmental area, while the Legislative works to dismantle this policy.

The minister used a metaphor of a violinist who keeps playing during a presentation, even as his strings are bursting one by one, to describe how she thinks about facing the situation.

“We live in moments of many contradictions, and we have a contradiction that does not depend on our will”, he said. “We have to resist and we will resist,” he added.

As shown to Sheetduring the processing of the provisional measure that dehydrated the environmental policy, the Planalto Palace adopted as a strategy to admit defeats in the sector, to preserve others, such as the Civil House.

During this Thursday’s event, Marina praised President Lula (PT), recalled the decrees issued by the Planalto that contributed to her portfolio and received a standing ovation. She responded by making a letter “L” with her fingers, a sign of support for the PT.

On Wednesday (24), Congress imposed, in the same day, a series of defeats on the minister — the main one, after the government’s political articulation gave in to pressure from the centrão with Lula’s endorsement.

The weariness of the minister and the environmental agenda, which had already been the target of clashes within the government with the dispute between Ibama and Petrobras over the oil exploration plan at the mouth of the Amazon, was aggravated by the advance of a provisional measure to reorganize the Esplanade of Ministries.

The MP was approved by a mixed commission made up of deputies and senators and foresees changes in the structure of the government that strengthen the center and remove power from Marina.

On Wednesday night, the minister suffered yet other defeats in the plenary of the Chamber. Deputies voted on an MP edited at the end of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government and resumed excerpts that loosen the rules for protecting the Atlantic Forest —items that had been withdrawn by the Senate. The text goes to Lula’s sanction.

The Chamber also approved an urgent request (to speed up the processing) for a Temporal Framework project, which limits the demarcation of indigenous lands to occupied territories until the enactment of the 1988 Constitution. The request was approved by 324 to 131.
