Marçal talks about leftist annoyance after machismo in debate – 10/01/2024 – Power
Candidate Pablo Marçal (PRTB) tried to explain, in a press conference on Tuesday night (1st), his sexist speech in the debate Sheet/UOL, in which he stated that “women don’t vote for women, women are intelligent”.
Marçal stated that his speech, on Monday (30), was distorted and he blamed the media.
“A woman who is intelligent doesn’t vote for a woman because of gender. She votes for whoever she wants. If a woman voted for a woman, Tabata [Amaral] or Marina [Helena] would win the election. They’re trying to say that I’m a misogynist, and I’m not. I know that’s the tactic,” Marçal said at a press conference this Tuesday.
“Today, in polls, women don’t vote for women. Just as black people don’t vote for black people and poor people don’t vote for poor people. That’s annoying to keep saying that so-and-so who is one sex has to vote for one sex because of their gender, it’s a leftist bore.”
The controversy caused in the debate was refuted by the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Cármen Lúcia, on the Roda Viva program, still on Monday. The minister stated that there is nothing intelligent in Marçal’s statement.
According to the Datafolha survey released on Thursday (26), the PRTB candidate is rejected by 53% of the female electorate. During the press conference, Marçal announced the names of two women to join a possible secretariat, if elected.
For the Sports portfolio, the chosen one was former volleyball player Patrícia Borges (PL) candidate for councilor for São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo.
As for the Fiscal Responsibility Management secretariat, Marçal chose Selene Nunes. Until May, she was secretary of the Economy of Goiás, in the government of Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil).
She participated in the creation of the Fiscal Responsibility Law, during the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government. Still at the press conference, Marçal said that he will announce, on Thursday, a third woman, for the Housing portfolio. In his eventual government, there will also be a Secretariat for Entrepreneurship, says the candidate.
When presenting the two names, Marçal said that women are more intelligent than men. Finally, he said it was impossible to win an election with low rejection.
Last week, Marçal had already announced two names. If elected, the candidate will appoint Marcos Cintra to the Treasury. Cintra, who is affiliated with União Brasil, is a former secretary of the Federal Revenue Service under former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). He was also a São Paulo councilor for two terms (1993-1997 and 2009-2013) and a federal deputy (1999-2003).
On the occasion, he also announced the name of Wilson Pollara for Health. He currently heads the department in Goiânia.
Marçal will end the night by participating in a dinner with more than a hundred businesspeople, which will take place at the home of federal deputy Ricardo Salles (Novo), in Jardins, in the west zone of the capital of São Paulo.
Salles is Bolsonaro’s former Environment Minister and refuses to support the re-election of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who is the former president’s candidate. As the Mônica Bergamo column reported, the dinner was scheduled at the request of the business community itself, who wanted to meet the influencer and self-proclaimed former coach.
