President Lula’s (PT) plane faced a technical problem shortly after taking off from Mexico City’s international airport towards Brazil on Tuesday afternoon (1st). The VC-1 aircraft has not yet landed again in Mexico, as pilots are flying in circles to burn off fuel.

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) reported, in a statement, that the problems have been resolved, but Lula will change planes to return to Brazil. The government did not provide further details about the incident.

According to the FAB, the pilots are waiting for the “necessary fuel consumption to return to the same aerodrome as the takeoff, changing aircraft and returning to Brasília”.

The statement was signed by Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, commander of the Air Force. The president traveled to Mexico to participate in the inauguration of Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum.

“I inform you that the presidential aircraft VC-1, which transports the President of the Republic on the stretch between Mexico and Brazil, presented a technical problem after takeoff from Mexico City Airport, this Tuesday (01/10).

After successfully carrying out the safety procedures to solve the problem presented, the pilots wait for the necessary fuel consumption to return to the same aerodrome as the takeoff, changing aircraft and returning to Brasília.”
