President Lula (PT) complained about the criticism he received for having spared Venezuela in his speech at the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in the United States, last week.

“Why do I have to talk about Venezuela everywhere? I don’t even talk about Janja [primeira-dama] everywhere. Why am I going to talk about Venezuela? I say what I want to say. That was the speech I wanted to make. And it was a very good speech”, Lula told journalists, this Monday (30), in Mexico, where he will participate in the inauguration of the new president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

In his speech at the UN, Lula congratulated the Palestinian commission, criticized Israel’s reaction against terrorist groups, defended the taxation of the so-called super-rich, attacked Elon Musk, called for the resumption of dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, and cited the forest fires in Brazil .

Lula exceeded the 5-minute time limit set for each speech and had his microphone cut off before finishing his speech.

The PT member also spoke about promoting gender equality and the fight against racism and forms of discrimination; and also stated that it is necessary to combat hunger in the world.

Reviews

The absence of the topic of the crisis in Venezuela in Lula’s speech was criticized by the organization Human Rights Watch.

“This is no time to remain silent. Brazil and Colombia can and should do much more to promote a transition to democracy and make the popular will count,” said the director of the organization’s Americas Division, Juanita Goebertus.

Although Lula said that his speech was “very good”, his participation in the UN Assembly was ignored by the international press, as shown by a survey carried out by the People’s Gazette, last week.
